Palestine under attack

Israeli warplanes continued to bomb various residential areas of Gaza on the first day of Eidul Fitr, while in different Israeli towns, far-right racist mobs continued to attack Palestinians and their businesses with the help of local police.

It all started with the attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque. More than 380 Palestinians were injured in three days when Israeli police violently attacked people praying inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The world has silently watched as Israel continues to seize more Palestinian land, while willfully violating agreements and laws. Palestinians face bullets, bombs, repression, humiliation and discrimination on a daily basis. Their lives have been made miserable by the continued occupation and oppression.

Tensions spread from East Jerusalem to Gaza after Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza vowed to respond to Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa and the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem. Israel has used the rocket attacks fired by Hamas as an excuse to punish the Palestinian population.

The “free media and leaders” of the “free western world” continue to call the Israeli aggression an “escalation of violence” or “clashes” between the Palestinian people and the Israeli army. Western media give the impression that Israel is responding to attacks by Palestinian militants.

US President Biden has said Israel has the right to defend itself. Other Western leaders, analysts and commentators are also saying the same.

The point is that Palestine is constantly under attack and aggression by Israel. According to a 2020 Human Rights Watch report: “The Israeli government continued to apply severe and discriminatory restrictions on the human rights of Palestinians; restrict the movement of people and goods in and out of the Gaza Strip; and facilitate the transfer of Israeli citizens to settlements in the occupied West Bank, a practice illegal under international humanitarian law.

“Israel’s twelve-year closure of Gaza, exacerbated by Egyptian restrictions on its border with Gaza, limits access to educational, economic and other opportunities, medical care, clean water and electricity for nearly 2 million Palestinians who live there. Eighty percent of Gaza’s population depends on humanitarian aid.

“Israeli forces stationed on the Israeli side of the fences separating Gaza and Israel continued to fire live ammunition at protesters inside Gaza who posed no imminent threat to life, in accordance with open fire orders from senior officials who violate international human rights standards. ”

Western corporate media and most Western governments try to hide the fact that Israel is occupying Palestinian land. The main objective of these biased reports is to cover up the Israeli aggression and excesses and its crimes against humanity.

It is not the Palestinians who are using violence against Israel, but Israel is using violence against the Palestinians to kill their resistance. Palestinians resist assaults on their homes, lives and livelihoods. They resist the abuse, humiliation and daily suffering inflicted on them by the Israeli occupation forces.

Israel occupied the Palestinian territories and continued to seize more Palestinian land for Jewish settlers. It is Israel that is using force to continue the occupation. It has one of the most modern war and military machines in the world, with the most modern warplanes, bombers, tanks, cannons and missiles. And what the Palestinian people have, stones, rockets and guns. There is no comparison between the two sides. How can a sane person compare a battle between F-16s and human bodies and call it a “clash”?

As Faisal Hanif has pointed out (in ‘Al-Aqsa Attacks: How the Media Gives a Free Pass to Israel’, May 12): “The language of the media around this latest use of force by Israel in its eternal war against the Palestinians takes on a familiar pattern, adding to a distorting dictionary. The word “Palestine” has long been out of use, as occupiers and religious fanatics are marketed as “settlers” engaged in the act of “bringing to life” parched and empty lands. Language has become as effective a tool as land grabbing and military force in erasing the aspirations and legitimate national identity of Palestinians.

“Now, as they forcibly evict Palestinian families with the help of state forces, it is presented as a real estate or legal dispute. As the Israeli propaganda machine gives birth to these new terms, their adoption by the international media allows other troublesome facts to be omitted, such as the expulsion of the residents of Sheikh Jarrah based on a law of Jewish supremacy.

“The words ‘clashes’ and ‘scuffles’ are an injustice to those who are attacked by a highly armed and technologically advanced force that helps racist Zionist mobs provoke a civilian population before launching attacks against them.

According to a Human Rights Watch report published on April 27, 2021: “The Israeli authorities methodically privilege Jewish Israelis and discriminate against Palestinians. Laws, policies, and statements by senior Israeli officials make it clear that the goal of maintaining Israeli Jewish control over demography, political power, and land has long guided government policy.

“In pursuit of this goal, the authorities have dispossessed, confined, forcibly separated and subjugated Palestinians because of their identity to varying degrees of intensity. In some areas, as described in this report, these deprivations are so severe that they constitute the crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution. “

International criminal law has developed two crimes against humanity for situations of systematic discrimination and repression: apartheid and persecution. Crimes against humanity are among the most heinous crimes in international law.

The crime against humanity of persecution, also spelled out in the Rome Statute, the intentional and serious deprivation of fundamental rights on racial, ethnic and other grounds, arose out of the trials that followed World War II and is one of the most serious international trials. crimes, of the same gravity as apartheid.
