Iron Man’s marriage to Emma Frost makes less sense than ever

Fans know that X-Men’s Iron Man and Emma Frost are set to tie the knot in the near future, but recent events make that less likely than ever.

Warning: Contains spoilers for X-Men: The Magneto Trial # 2!

Tony Stark’s future marriage, aka Iron Man, and major X Men hero Emma Frost was revealed in 2019, and yet from X-Men: The Magneto Trial # 2, it seems less likely than ever. While Tony and Emma don’t tend to share a lot of adventures, they actually have a shared history that dates back to when Emma was a Certified Villain. However, as the Avengers visit the mutant island of Krakoa to pay homage in the wake of the Scarlet Witch’s murder, Emma appears to have less regard for Tony than ever before, raising big questions about their alleged nuptials.

Fans have learned that Iron Man and the White Queen will bond Marvel Universe History # 6 (by Mark Waid, Mike O’Sullivan and Javier Rodriguez), in which Galactus and Franklin Richards sit at the end of time, recalling major events of the past. While the main focus of the series was to provide fans with a unique and easily digestible canonical narrative of Marvel history so far, the latest issue sees Franklin mentioning several moments that have yet to happen in the general public cannon. In the years that followed, some – like the King in Black, the era of Khonshu, and the reign of Emperor Dorrek VII – occurred, while others, like “the tragic fate of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones’ second childand “the wedding of Tony Stark and Emma Frost“have not yet taken place.

While Marvel is no stranger to alternative futures that never come true, History of the Marvel Universe was not presented in this style and was incredibly frugal in the way it presented these upcoming events, presumably so that future writers had room to work if plans changed. But despite this freedom, it remains difficult to see how Emma Frost and Tony Stark could come together. In X-Men: The Magneto Trial # 2 (of Leah Williams and Lucas Werneck) Tony is at his most arrogant and boorish, in that Emma totally whitewashes him, much to the amusement of the other Avengers (she’s also pretty cold towards Captain America, still irritated by her recent discovery that she reminds him of her mother.)

Iron Man Wedding Emma Frost Tony Stark

But Emma’s contempt for Tony isn’t the only obstacle to their marriage. Tony is currently seeing Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat, while Emma is a member of the Silent Council – the governing body of the new mutant nation of Krakoa – so it might even be politically disadvantageous for her to marry a human. Of course, in the comic, words can be twisted to their absolute limits, so it is possible “the wedding of Tony Stark and Emma Frost”, has an alternate meaning, but it could also suggest that disaster awaits in Emma’s future.

It is because the next Hell The event will see Mystique attempt to destroy Krakoa as a political entity, and marketing materials suggest Emma could take on Professor X and Magneto, having previously caused issues with their planned endgame by destroying Mister’s cloning facility. Sinister. If Krakoa falls or Emma is exiled, it’s possible that a marriage to Tony Stark will become tactically cautious, especially if it offers some protection to displaced mutants – in the alternate future of Wolverine: Old Man Logan, Emma married Doctor Doom to obtain refuge for the mutants. Emma might not like Tony lately, but he’s nowhere near as bad as Doom, and Civil war revealed that Iron Man and the White Queen had a “little arrangement” back when she was a wealthy supervillain.

Iron Man Emma Frost Tony Stark

It’s possible that fans will wait a long time before Emma and Tony’s wedding, but Jonathan Hickman’s epic X-Men overhaul also took place in 2019, so it’s unlikely that Krakoa came out of nowhere, and the Most of the other events mentioned are either concluded or in progress. As unlikely as it sounds based on the most recent interaction between the Avengers and X Men, there is every reason to suspect Iron Man and Emma Frost will head to the altar ASAP – the real question is what could possibly rekindle the White Queen’s interest in Tony Stark.
